Is the #1 cause of depression is the thoughts, ideas, and beliefs that a person has which eventually leads them to experience depression? Some people even say depression is 'all in your head', which is partially true, but not completely accurate.
Folks with depression have a real condition and are having a real life experience of overwhelming sadness, grief, and despair. They feel it in their body and it affects how they express themselves. They live through the depression every day of their lives for as long as they are depressed, but is usually caused by their thoughts in response to the life experiences they've had, which triggered
the onset of depression in the first place.
Terrible experiences that are forced upon someone like childhood abuse, rape, domestic abuse, and other trauma can lead that person to think terrible things about themselves, the other people involved in the situation, and sometimes life in general. Now, I'm not saying that the experience of depression is their own fault, but I am saying that sometimes things happen to us in life that we can't control or don't know how to deal with after they happen.
